A few quick notes on San Antonio
It was a working trip, but that doesn't mean I didn't have fun.
I went for the National Writing Project meeting/NCTE convention.
Book Nerd Heaven
After making sure I attended the meetings that needed attending, I found out when some the authors I wanted to see would be signing and speaking. I met OR Melling, Lauren Myracle, & Daniel Waters and they were all kind enough to let me get pictures with them (And I don't have that 'deer-in-headlights' look!).
I read their blogs and told them through comments that I hoped to see them at the convention. I completely fan-girled out when I told them who I was (in respect to reading their blogs) and they "knew" who I was. (I was even given a shout out in this blog about his trip-ack! Does this make me famous? even semi-so?)
Seriously though, Go read these authors' books. They really are some of my favorites.
I got tons of books for my library. Many of the books won't be out until sometime next year and are Advance reader copies (also known as arcs). What's interesting is that it was bc of arcs that I picked up at previous conventions that I discovered these authors to begin with.
And just let me say, getting all of the books home took some creative packing....
Twilight
Lana and I were afraid we were going to miss getting to see Twilight but, after many hilarious tries, we were able to call and get tickets to the midnight showing. When we were in the hotel lobby waiting on our taxi to the cinema Harvey Daniels walks in(he is an author of, among other things, books on literature circles that I have used). Lana yells, "There's Harvey Daniels!" and he turns to see what crazy person knows his name. He laughs and says " you are NOT wearing Twilight shirts....."
Oh yes we were.
He also told us he hopes to see the movie sometime, too. As did the bellman at the hotel as we were leaving. So funny.
We were only about two blocks from the Alamo, which we discovered when we were sent the wrong direction looking for the Grand Hyatt hotel. It was supposed to have been in the 70s while we were there but a cold front came through and it ended up being in the 50s. I really didn't pack for cooler weather and got a little cold when we explored some at night. It was a pretty place though.
